Our Vision: Promote Awareness for Science and Make it Accessible
We are inspired by scientific achievements and technological progress.
We think, that everyone should be able to take advantage of scientific insights for making better decision in complicated everyday situations.
And we believe that easy-to-use, science-based applications can be developed by using and combining the right technologies.
Focus on People with Diabetes
Currently, we are working on two projects to develop applications that will help people with diabetes - the SugarWatch™ device to display blood glucose values and the Glucose-Insulin-Model to predict blood glucose values.
Raising Blood Glucose Awareness: The SugarWatch™ Project
|
The SugarWatch™ project aimes at building a product designed to raise awareness for the current blood glucose values of a person with diabetes. The solution is based on Continuous Glucose Monitor ("CGM") technology which is increasingly becoming a core component of the standard of care for diabetes - not anymore limited to people with type 1 diabetes. The SugarWatch project is developing the backend service and a display device - like a clock on your desk or the baby monitor for watching over your little one. Essentially, this dedicated SugarWatch™ device will display the current blood glucose value of a person with diabetes and thereby raise awareness for the potential need to act - for the user itself and for everyone who cares.

Simulation of Glucose-Insulin Regulation: The GIM Project
|
The Glucose-Insulin-Model project aspires to bring some existing science to everyone's computers and mobile devices. Even if you have diabetes, you might not be aware, that there are mathematical models that can be used to simulate the glucose-insulin regulation dynamic in humans. In fact, there is even a model that is FDA-approved to be used as 'virtual person with type 1 diabetes' for testing of closed-loop systems for insulin delivery. Building on this existing knowledge, the goal of the GIM project is to use a modeling & simulation approach to predict the blood glucose profile of a person with type 1 diabetes for several hours after a meal and a corresponding insulin injection. The idea is, that everyone can use this to better understand what happens in the body and how different meal and treatment decisions impact blood glucose values over time.

Building on a solid platform
Our solutions are based on the achievements of VCA-Plus, which can be considered a predecessor of 80-20-Plus. VCA-Plus developed Vicos™, a cloud-based platform to host and execute browser accessible software-as-a-service solutions - with a focus on modeling & simulation and data analysis & reporting. 80-20-Plus has developed this platform further into what we now call PlatOS™ which supports accessing the cloud-based solutions not only using a standard web browser but also ultra-thin client apps on smart mobile devices.
